Spider Lamb Syndrome
(Hereditary Chondrodysplasia)

Hereditary Chondrodysplasia, more commonly known as “Spider Lamb Syndrome” is a genetic condition that results in severe skeletal abnormalities. Affected animals are typically characterized by forelegs that bend significantly outward at the knee, but often possess defects in the spine. First reported in Suffolk breeds and crosses, this condition is usually apparent at birth or will become visible within a month of the animal’s life. The skeletal deformities associated with Spider Lamb Syndrome are so severe that affected animals have difficulty nursing and walking, and are generally not expected to live beyond six months.
