Scrapie Susceptibility Testing
Gene Check offers both codon 171 and codon 136 Scrapie Susceptibility Tests for all breeds of sheep. Codon 171 “H” or “K” allele reporting is also available upon request.
* Gene Check does not recommend testing at codon 136 except for QR and some QQ sheep. We do offer “sequential” testing. Sequential testing means that we would test at codon 171 and then can test at codon 136 based on the 171 genotype. If you would like this done, please put a note on your submission form.

We store the extracted DNA samples for 5 years. Therefore, additional testing can be done from that stored DNA. Just give us a call or email us with the information on the sample/ samples for which you would like to run additional tests.
Results are reported rapidly and confidentially and are typically available 3-5 business days after the day the samples are received. Large lots, particularly during the Spring busy season, may require somewhat longer turnaround times. Rush service is available for $10 extra per test. Rush results are available in 1-2 business days after the day the samples are received. Rush testing is not available for blood cards.
Gene Check can provide individual certificates upon request.
